The Bicaz Pass is situated at the crossroads between Transylvania and Moldavia and is one of the most sought after destinations in the Carpathians. The winding road one follows through is unites the resorts of Lacul Ro║u and Bicazul Ardelean. For eight kilometers, it goes along the Bicaz River, which cuts its way specaculatlz through the tall calcareous Ceahlπu Mountains. The nearby Red Lake, the Izvorul Muntelui Dam, and the hydroelectric power plant on the Bistri■a Valley, built 40 years ago, contribute to the touristic attraction of the area.
Close to the Bicaz pass, there lies a 5, 200 ha National Park that provides protection to approximately 2, 000 species of flowers, pine tree and oak tree forrests, as well as a rare fauna (eagles, mountain roosters, black goats, deer, bears, etc.).
